STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 07323 The purpose of this legislation is to provide for minimal qualifications for the office of sheriff. Currently, there are no requirements for the office of sheriff, not even a criminal background check. The Idaho Sheriffs' Association feels it is time to ensure that sheriffs have certain primary law enforcement experience and do not have criminal backgrounds. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to the state or its political subdivisions.
